Kris Shekitka

Colonel Shekitka is Medical Director of Surgical Pathology at Quest Diagnostics, Inc. Chantilly, Virginia. He retired from the USAF in October 2001 after more than 27 years of active duty. His last assignment in the US military was as Deputy Director, Air Force at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, DC (1999-2001).

Dr Shekitka received his pathology training at Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington [77-81]. While in the military, he served as assistant Director of Anatomic Pathology at D.D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia [81-85], Staff Pathologist at the AFIP in Gastrointestinal Pathology[85-90], Chief of Anatomic Pathology at Malcolm Grow USAF Medical Center, Andrews AFB (90-92) Staff Pathologist at the AFIP in Orthopedic Pathology[92-96], and Chief of Pathology at Malcolm Grow USAF Medical Center (96-99).

For the past several years, he has contributed his special interest in Orthopedic Pathology (particularly metabolic bone disease and juxta-articular soft tissue tumors) to the COA Annual Basic Science Course. He has helped chair the laboratory sessions and contributes to the daily discussion of the practical orthopaedic cases during the course. This past year he has contributed enormously to the development of the mini-atlas of orthopaedic pathology, a take-home complement to the laboratory sessions/lectures.
