Peter Roughley
Dr Peter Roughley is a research scientist in the Genetics Unit at the Shriners Hospital for Children and a professor in the Department of Surgery at McGill University. He is also on the executive of the Canadian Orthopedic Research Society and will serve as its president for 1999/2000. His research interests focus on the biochemistry of human articular cartilage and the intervertebral disc, with particular emphasis on the metabolic processes that contribute to aging and degeneration of these tissues. He also runs the molecular diagnosis service in the hospital, whereby gene mutations are analyzed in patients presenting with a variety of metabolic bone diseases or other connective tissue abnormalities.
Dr Roughley has contributed the lecture and handout on Cellular Physiology to the COA Basic Science Course since its earliest years.
